Last week my company sent me and a collegue to the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Manhattan. A chauffeur picked us up and we had to dress up in business suits. Younger women like us were in minority at this event, grey-haired serious Japanese business men were in vast majority...
A pannel discussion about NYC's economy was held by some high-ranking influential persons of the city. Here are some of their points:
- NYC's economy is thriving. The city has a surplus in the budget, there are more jobs than before 9-11 and the city is safer than ever.
- NYC has the best educated workforce in the U.S. and the universities have doubled the number of applications after 9-11.
- 8 miljon people live in NYC, 20 miljon in the extended metropolitan area. The city is very popular, attracting people and investment from all over the world.
- NYC businesses are twice as productive as the national average.
When typing up the key points about our city on the lap-top in the back seat of the car on our way back to our office I thought to myself: I'm really proud to be a New Yorker.
